A couple weeks ago I contacted the local humane Society here in Grand Junction, Colorado, The Roice-Hurst Humane Society, and asked the director, Anna Stout if she would be open to letting me photograph some of their animals. I was extremely happy to hear that she was more than happy to collaborate with me on such a project. She mentioned that this could be a great way to bring some much needed attention to some of the pets that had been there a bit longer and needed something a little extra to bring them some more attention. Prior to calling, I had noticed that the Roice-Hurst Humane Society already had 4 volunteer photographers, 2 couples, one for the dogs, and one for the cats. I wanted to make it clear that I was in no way trying to encroach on the amazing job that they were already doing photographing all the animals as they came in. I wanted to create different, specific portrait style images of some of the animals.
The first shoot was a huge learning experience. I had never worked with animals in a studio setting. Thankfully to their Director Anna and animal handler Lance, we created some amazing portraits that have gotten quite a bit of attention. With that new attention I just hope they become adopted very soon.
Without further ado, here are the images we created with 2 sessions so far. For any information on these animals, please contact the Roice-Hurst Humane Society at 970-434-7337
Again If you would like more information on adopting these beautiful pets please contact the Roice-Hurst Humane Society at 970-434-7337
